SPECIAL EVENTS
The HHC Foundation’s Second Annual Breakfast Benefit held on May 16, 2006 was a tremendous success, raising $575,000 to support the City’s public hospitals. Over 500 guests braved an early morning thunderstorm to join Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Congressman Charles B. Rangel, and some of New York City’s most notable business leaders to celebrate public health and civic leadership.
After opening remarks by breakfast chair Dan Ricciardi and Master of Ceremonies Dr. Max Gomez of Channel 4 News, Ricciardi introduced Mayor Bloomberg. Mayor Bloomberg gave an eloquent speech in which he spoke of the importance of public-private partnership and sang the praises of HHC doctors, nurses, and staff who dedicate their lives to caring for New Yorkers and the City’s most vulnerable populations, assuring they receive the quality healthcare they need and deserve.
Honored at the event was Robert M. Glickman, M.D., Dean of the New York University School of Medicine (an Affiliate Partner of HHC Bellevue Hospital) and CEO, NYU Hospitals Center. Dr. Glickman, who received the HHC Foundation’s 2006 Humanitarian Award, is retiring this year after over 30 years in medicine.
Community Service Awards were given to two octogenarian activists: Harlem’s Roscoe C. Brown, Jr., Ph.D., Director, Center for Urban Education Policy at the CUNY Graduate School and University Center, and Brooklyn’s Mary Sansone, founder of Congress of the Italian-American Organization (CIAO) and Community Understanding for Racial and Ethnic Equality (CURE).
HHC Foundation thanks its generous donors and sponsors for making this event a success!
