SPECIAL EVENTS
Nearly 400 guests attended The HHC Foundation's Fall fund raiser at the landmark Hudson Theatre where Tony Award winner Sarah Jones wowed the capacity crowd with her one-woman tour de force, "A Right to Care." The benefit performance raised nearly $200,000 in support of New York City Health and Hospital Corporation's Limited English Proficiency Program. Over 100 different languages are spoken at HHC everyday. LEP patients comprise 50% of the patients served, with HHC facilities serving a much higher number of LEP patients than any other hospital in the City.
Originally commissioned by the Kellogg Foundation to "explore the way racial, economic and ethnic disparities can impact the healthcare system," "A Right to Care" proved the perfect fund-raising vehicle for the HHC Foundation and its programs serving New York City's ethnically diverse population. Sarah Jones is most known for her popular and highly acclaimed "Bridge and Tunnel." Initially produced by Meryl Streep off-Broadway, it later ran on Broadway where Ms. Jones garnered the much-coveted 2006 Tony Award.
Among the guests that turned out to support the event were Benefit Chairperson Charlynn and Dr. Warren Goins, HHC Foundation Chairman Ed Rappa, Board members Barbara Gimble and Dr. Daniel Ricciardi, Diane and John Wren (CEO Omnicon), Joyce Mullins-Jackson (Avon) and the Hon. Bernard Jackson, Camille and Dr. Luther Clark, Lyn and E. T. Williams, Saundra Cornwell, Suzanne Randolph and Barbara Williams.
