NEONATAL DEVELOPMENTAL CARE

HHC is proud that its facilities usher into the world more than 20,000 newborns every year. About 20 percent of those newborns require admission to a neonatal intensive care unit. HHC already provides state of the art care for premature and low birth weight infants in its care, but it is committed to taking that care to an even higher level. Developmental Care advances standard care by offering an individualized approach to neonatal intensive care that encompasses a broad set of interventions designed to minimize the stress of the neonatal intensive care environment and protect the normal neurological development of the child. Studies have shown that low birth weight, premature infants cared for in a developmentally appropriate behavioral and physical environment have improved medical outcomes. In addition to improving health outcomes for premature and low birth weight babies, Developmental Care reduces the overdependence on medical technology, which leads to a reduction in costs for the hospital, insurance companies, and the patient.
