DON’T TAX-DOLLARS PAY FOR PUBLIC HEALTH?

A major misconception concerning the financing of public hospitals is that all institutional needs are covered by tax-levied dollars. New York City tax funds play an important but modest role in HHC's financial stability. Today, these tax funds represent less than 10 percent of the total budget, which is why the HHC Foundation was created and why we need private support to ensure that HHC is always in a position to deliver the highest quality care.

Public/private partnerships help HHC stay ahead of the curve. With your help, HHC can strive to do more for the New York community by providing a broad range of programs and services that are innovative, unique, and cutting edge.

Private funds raised by the HHC Foundation complement the public support that HHC receives from city, state, and federal sources, and the patient care revenue it receives from Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance.
